For machining tough materials like stainless steel, Type VA solid carbide or HSS drills are ideal. BSG's RT 100 VA solid carbide drill, with its 140° point angle and 30° helix angle, is a specialist tool designed to handle stainless steel. Its adapted geometry minimizes heat and shortens chips for optimal performance. Utilize solid carbide drills with a proper hard material coating for the best results.
Hardened steel, treated at temperatures between 750 and 1050 °C to enhance its mechanical strength, requires a solid carbide drill with a TiAIN coating for optimal results. The RT 100 HF Ratio drill from BSG is highly recommended for this purpose.
The TiAlN nanocrystal coating features a microstructure with extremely fine TiAlN nanocrystals embedded in a high-temperature-resistant silicon nitride matrix, resulting in exceptional hardness.
BSG Tools offers a wealth of knowledge in metal machining through our comprehensive online learning units, presented in a practical and interactive format, accessible 24/7.
Twist drills encompass various types, including:metal drills, plastic drills, wood drills, universal drills, masonry and concrete drills. All twist drills share the common feature of helical flutes, which define their name. Depending on the material's hardness, different twist drills are employed, categorized into three main types.
Carbide drills are made from a sintered material, formed under high pressure and heat, comprising various carbides and cobalt. This process creates what is known as sintered carbide metals.
Carbide, a premium cutting material, is extensively used in tools such as drills, lathe tools, and milling tools. These tools excel in CNC machines with stable clamping due to enhanced cutting values, extended tool life, and superior drilling quality. Although carbide tools command a significantly higher purchase price compared to HSS tools, their performance in series and large-scale production justifies the investment. However, for machining scenarios involving unstable conditions or small batch sizes, high-speed steel (HSS) tools are more economical and preferable.
Solid carbide drills are distinguished by their construction, where both the tool body and cutting edges are composed entirely of carbide, unlike other drills made from mixed materials. These drills are engineered for the most demanding machining tasks, offering unparalleled wear resistance and efficiency. The excellence of BSG's solid carbide drills begins with the meticulous selection and composition of cutting materials. At Shanghai BSG Industrial Co., Ltd., we take pride in manufacturing our own carbide to ensure the highest quality and performance.
